The girl seemed crushed, suddenly deflated. But after a few moments, she bent down, picked up another starfish, and hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference to that one!”
The old man looked at the girl inquisitively and thought about what she had done and said. Inspired, he joined the little girl in throwing starfish back into the sea. Soon others joined, and all the starfish were saved.”

Sometimes recovery can seem overwhelming. For many, it can feel impossible or even pointless to start the journey. Your eating disorder will no doubt discourage your recovery attempts and there may even be people in your life who fuel uncertainty or doubt.
It takes courage to put doubt to one side. Each starfish the little girl saved was a small courageous act that made a big difference.
Each meal you eat, thought you challenge, or behavior you change, makes a difference and strengthens your healthy self.
Recovery attempted alone, is lonely. With others, a community is formed, you lift each other up and find support.
If recovery is tough today, remember that every action, no matter how small towards recovery, gets you closer to your goal of Recovered.
