ACC Sensitive Claims
We are pleased to share that Recovered Living NZ has obtained an ACC contract to provide full cover for residential eating disorder services under ACC Sensitive Claims. The eating disorder must be covered as a mental injury under the sensitive claim.
Please be aware ACC have advised they cannot guarantee that an enquiry will result in a direct referral for funding, however they have outlined the steps required in order to request funding.
Wait times for the ACC approval process vary, however our experience to date is approximately 5-7 months if you are first needing to get your eating disorder covered under a sensitive claim and approximately 3-4 months if your eating disorder is already covered, and you are requesting an assessment for cover for Recovered Living.
With ACC referrals increasing significantly, our projected waitlist for admission has expanded to 12-18 months. We believe this delay to be clinically inappropriate as it risks worsening distress and entrenching eating disorder behaviours.
To provide timely, effective care and reduce our waitlist times, all new ACC admissions will have a maximum timeframe of four-months in our residential programme. This model strikes a balance between outcome-driven treatment and equitable access. In a review of our outcomes from the first two years of operations, clients who stayed at least 90 days experienced better long-term recovery outcomes.
